For more than 25 years, the Rotary Club of Oak Forest has recognized outstanding graduating seniors with a $1000 scholarship award based on social and civic involvement in our community.  Their scholarship application process started over 4 weeks ago when they submitted their scholarship application to our committee.  Our criteria for selection is simple, Service Above Self or "what have you done for others in your high school career".  Our scholarship committee consisted of Michele Thornton, Sue Wolf, Karen Moran, Andy Tinberg, Tom Hoogland, Ralph Polachek, Tom Chunis and myself.  Our largest scholarship committee to date.  All 8 members of the committee read the applications and chose 10 candidates for our semi-finalist interviews.  The interviews were conducted at OFHS by Karen, Sue, Michele and myself late last week and the following graduating seniors were chosen to receive a $1000 scholarship from our Club:  Katherine Wanatowicz, Matthew McKeown and William Hilger.  Our scholarship recipients have been invited to attend our June 12th Rotary lunch and give a short presentation of their service to the community.  I hope you.....

will join me in welcoming these outstanding students to our lunch.  My thanks to all of the scholarship committee members especially those members who participated in the interview process.  For those Rotarians who have never participated in choosing the top candidates, just let me say the selection process can be very spirited.  A special thanks goes out to Savka Mladenovich whose special assistance, from beginning to end, is also greatly appreciated.  Savka will be presenting scholarship certificates to 2 of the 3 winners at OFHS's honors night.
